For some strange reason there is no default error logging. Suggest to append:
JLog::addLogger(array(), JLog::ERROR, array('deprecated'), true);
to libraries/cms.php.
It will provide an logs/error.php with more details about the error. For database queries that should include more details about what is wrong.
If not, use that query in phpMyAdmin and see what it gives.
