I would guess, perhaps the JEvent component or plugins are not enabled or you aren't logged in as a user with the correct rights to add an event, or the menu is linking to an old/deleted/trashed/invalid item.
Is this being done from the front-end or administrator side?
Have you asked on the author's website forum? This problem might be specific to this component, users of it might have some other ideas. Also since JEvents is a paid-for component, you should get priority support from the developer.
