That's the same problem I'm getting, if you do download the file, opening it with IE detects the format correctly, and it displays properly, but loading from the server directly tries to download and save instead of display.
I wouldn't suspect javascript because I haven't modified it at all and that any developer console I use on the page when loaded doesn't give any errors or warnings, but that isn't to say it's wrong.
