Banging my head doesn't seem to be solving my problem so I thought I'd head over here and see if anyone can lend a hand. I have a purchased template and much to my dismay, I realized that the module positions leave a lot to be desired for my purposes. I am attempting to create a new module position and believe I have done it correctly in index.php and the template.xml files however, the position doesn't seem to be working.

I have added a module position called left-sidebar. It should load a module called menus. I have made a graphic to illustrate how I would like the page to appear. Perhaps someone here could look at my code and see if they can spot where I've gone wrong and why this content will not load.
