General Questions/New to Joomla! 3.x • Re: Making Sure Template is Private?

An alternative is that you can duplicate the site (and database) and install a second instance of Joomla into a sub-folder off your main domain (like domain.com/testing), or install WAMPServer/XAMPP on your PC and develop the site completely off-line until ready to roll it out.

You can use the same database name, but just specify a different table prefix, or use a completely separate database. Then you can export the database of your live site, and import into the duplicate, using phpMyAdmin, or whatever db admin tool is at your disposal. You then need to update the configuration.php file of the duplicate install to point to the correct database with the correct db user and db psswd etc.

You can then use Akeeba Backup to backup the site and Akeeba Kickstart to restore the site to the live server relatively quickly and painlessly.

AMurray, your response brings up several reviews I have to go over. Bare with me, since I am a beginner. Your response brings up several questions to me. I just have to figure out how to word them. I'll be back. :)
