General Questions/New to Joomla! 3.x • Re: Joomla Database Growing - SQL file 1.4Gig!

With them being [expletive]s like this, it sounds to me like you really will need to get phpMyAdmin installed on a separate site where you can control the upload size; work with it, create a new backup, and proceed from there.

I could tell you some things GD support agents said to me over the phone last year, for the right price. I wish I'd been recording it. It was enough for me to swear off forever, both GD as a provider, and pretty much any company that even offers free hosting.

There's a kit called XAMPP designed for these situations where a relative newbie needs to install a webserver on their home machine but isn't even sure what I just said. It is notoriously wonky dealing with large sites, but once you get it basically up and working with phpMyAdmin, and configured to accept huge databases (which you obviously will need disk space for -- actually I would assume you need 3x or 4x aka 5.6gb, devoted to this project while you are doing it) -- which will include changing settings for phpMyAdmin as well as PHP and maybe Apache, and a lot of stepwise learning -- you may be able to work with it in that environment.

Take and handle your backups more frequently and problems won't run away like this. Because a good consultant says what you need to hear whether you're going to like me afterward or not, I will say GD has a right to expect even a paying customer to use the service without damaging it.
