We have noticed that some migration tools modify the status and the permissions of the articles: sometimes the articles are not published, sometimes they are set to "Registered", and sometimes they are not "featured" when they should be featured.
Try creating a new test article and assign it to that category and see if it works, if it does, then most likely the problem is one of the above, if it doesn't, then most likely the problem has to do with your template file. Set your error reporting to maximum and post back what you see (e.g. the errors/warnings that you see).
