If you use the JCE Editor extension, there is a very nice interface for uploading images at the same time you are placing them. It uploads the image from your computer into whatever folder you have open. It is all one combined into one step. TinyMCE has this as well, if you scroll down. It is not as intuitive as the JCE Editor interface.
If you use JCE Editor then use the little icon in the dashboard, not the image button below the text editor.
