General Questions/New to Joomla! 3.x • Re: Help! HTML Code doesn't work from Bravenet.net

I'm not sure whether you mean blank page, as in, nothing you pasted was shown -- or blank page, as in, white page -- a Joomla crash.

If it crashed you should check your Joomla logs, and web server logs. Sometimes all you need is the last line before the crash, sometimes prior lines show the more helpful details.

A few possibilities come to mind.

- Pasting multibyte text to a server without mbstring support

I have seen individual multibyte characters crash certain PHP functions; Google "multibyte characters crash PHP" for a random sample of complaints. Therefore maybe look at your use of special characters; if that's not the problem, ensure mbstring support on the server.

- Too long -- there are a few PHP settings which set length limits, which all come into play for this exchange.

-- max_input_time - often overlooked; can be caused by big inputs, slow servers, slow browser connection

-- memory_limit - only relevant for the most huge pastes

-- post_max_size - limits size of data data which can be posted in total from a form input

- Malicious code -- don't automatically assume that any code you don't recognize, is malicious -- but you are pasting 3rd party code from a site I've never heard of (and you say .net when Google says Bravenet is a .com ... perhaps a typo in the forum post here, or perhaps a blackhat website capitalizing on TLD typos to try and hijack sites? )

- Odd behavior from Text Filtering and/or TinyMCE -- Just to catch the obvious, perhaps you have not enabled enough content features (i.e. have not told Joomla you are boss and what you paste, is law, yet). Have a look at Global Configuration -> Text Filtering, and also Plugin Manager -> TinyMCE, where you may need to choose Extended functionality in order to add a range of Extended Valid Elements and their attributes.

Here is where to learn the format of the Extended Valid Elements field, where you whitelist chunks of the HTML spec so that TinyMCE won't filter it:

This is by no means comprehensive, but I hope it helps. Please post FPA if you're still stuck.

PS: Pastebin can probably handle the code paste Per requested.
