That's easy enough. 
You can change the link (a href) to go to the menu item, for example if you wanted to go to the page "About Us" in the menu, you could have as the link <a href="about-us"><img src="images/my-intro-image.png"></a>
We do it all the time. There is much power in doing this, as an example, we frequently will link to hidden menu items that are not in a menu in this way. Works like a charm!
