This is a very common issue and is caused by the menu configuration + module assignment in your website.
If the module is assigned to a menu item of type Joomla Articles then the module will still be there if you open an Article or Category belonging to this menu Itemid.
This is the way Joomla works and has nothing to do with the module.
If you want the module to disappear when opening an article, then you must assign the module to a menu item that has a different Itemid that the one of the article/category.
