Mr Teemans advice and instruction is generally considered the highest of quality, as is Akeeba Update, so I suspect that you missed an extension that is not J3 compatible.
You could access your database via phpMyAdmin and search through the installed extensions in
your prefix_extensions to find which is it is and disable it.
The site may come back up to allow you to upgrade.
Having reread your post I don't think Beez20 is J3 compatible, Beez 3 rings a bell. You will need to select a core J3 template as default in the database too.
