After further review, something (presumably the editor) is apparently stripping the onClick="... portion of the Javascript code.
Is there a convenient way (in the Extension Manager, etc.) to turn off the editor's filtering?
Webdongle, I'm aware of Sourcerer (though I do appreciate the suggestion), but I'm hoping to avoid adding an extra plugin - with, from what I gather, specific tags that delineate blocks of script code - if I can avoid it.
