Easy social is new and as a result is a bit more bold, potentially better guts, and looks like it was made to chump jomsocial. However it isn't as well established or has as big of a community and extensions for it so it's somewhat limited in that sense.
I do have to say I wasn't as impressed with the Jomosocial developers in the past since I am a developer myself and didn't like their implementation on a variety of things. Also jomsocial video zencoder stuff was in beta forever and their facebook integration seemed to flip flop than fall off but I don't know how much things have changed since the 2.6 or 2.8 days...it's been a while.
Easysocial has a greate development team and great extensions, and from what I can tell a great framework and code to back it.
I myself would not want to be too extension dependent anyway so using easy social wouldn't be an issue for me especially with my issues with jomsocial in the past. However if you want a lot of extensions, an older stable presence in the community extension area of joomla, jomsocial has been where it's at for a long time now.
My pick would be easy social, but for many other reasons I could see it being Jomsocial. You can try both and see if you like their UI's, features, and available extensions for your purposes. Also test [[drive]] it on their sites.
