personally think that model working in Wordpress is good. Main resource of extensions for Joomla is JED, so why not allow there only free extensions, that developers will be forced to do at least some basic core free functionality to their extensions ?
That ''advertising'' in JED for them is good motivation to do that.
Another think, less extensions there improve process of approving them from admins JED.
Btw. I hope that these core extracted Joomla component will sleep in garbage and nobody will spend energy on that. Its waste of time to manage that even if compatibility. Why back compatibility always win ? its not possible to do it these days. Joomla is little bit outdated compared to Drupal or Wordpress so some faster steps forward is important if Joomla dont wanna die
Also its good if Joomla will find some kind of business model instead of become crapy affiliate for hosting company.
Anyways I think many of us waiting for lightweight Joomla, what can really help performance, stability, security and even developers of extensions, so to whole community.
I criticize Joomla often, but on other hand ... excited and looking forward for Joomla without these mostly unnecessarily components, modules ... hope it will be just first step followed with others, bc. still find some ''features'' uselessly and on other side, some great features somehow forgotten ...
Btw. in regard to roadmap, why higher priority is set to multil-anguage than urls and SEO ? Urls and SEO use and need every user of Joomla while multi-language maybe 5% ? Please! We can have bootstrap, multi-language anything ... without well working URLS and SEO its still problematic web. Stay focused on important features what every user use and need instead of some minor ''features'' for small group of users.
