4. Learn to program my own MVC framework instead.
Forget it right away
, unless you're a PHP guru and have a lot of time to spend.
1. Learn to program in Joomla so as to create my own social networking site from beginning to end by programming extensions.
3. Learn to program with an MVC framework such as CakePHP.
Even though a framework make your job easier, programming a social network application is not a piece of cake. Again, you will need some serious PHP skills plus time and experience.
2. Learn to program in Joomla, and learn how to modify JomSocial or CommunityBuilder to suit my needs instead.
Seems to me the most realistic option.
