Installation Joomla! 3.x • Quick Start Guide is for 1.5 - where is 3?

Hi - I'm installing Joomla 3 but cannot find a quick start quide except for ver 1.5. Screen are totally different and I continue to receive error Can't connect to MySQL. Doesn't XAMMP install MySQL and PHP? I'm stumped... Cheers
