It's not clear what you mean -- it will be clearer if you share with us the indication you have that they're using your system to send messages. Tell us what the information is coming from and share the message itself.
From your message, you could be saying they're using the Joomla Contact messaging somehow, or have installed a separate script on your site, or are using email totally separately; and then there are questions of what extensions may be installed; etc, etc.
So, in addition to the above, also please give us the output of the Forum Post Assistant..
