Templates for Joomla! 3.x • Module formatting in template user area

I have a template that has a user area that was set up for the potential of 4 modules (about us, recent news, log in and newsletter sign up).



I can't seem to find any information on reformatting this area to display only 2 modules to fill the space. When I only enable 2 of the modules, the other 2 areas are blank and the 2 enabled areas are positioned left.



Any help would be appreciated.
