Security in Joomla! 2.5 • Re: How to protect index.php

Well the two sites certainly have been hacked in different ways. The most recent incident I am pretty sure I have cleansed, I simply deleted my entire joomla home directory and restored my site (which doesn't change much) from an Akeeba backup that was taken when the site was first built (actually I did more than that, I compared an Akeeeba backup of the hacked site with one from the initial build and identified the changes)

I guess what I wanted some direction on is where to focus my efforts to protect my index.php, which was the last file that I know was hacked.

From what I've read so far, I'm inclined to start on the htaccess file which seems like a pretty significant topic in itself, so I'll need to study and try that, but I was hoping that somebody could tell me if that is the correct place to start or somewhere else?
