Migrating and Upgrading to Joomla! 2.5 • Database

We have been using Joomla 1.5.23 and realized it is time to upgrade. In order to avoid any issues with our live website, we moved a copy of the content into a new sub-directory and created a new database where we copied the existing one into it. We made the necessary changes to the configuration.php and badda bing badda boom we had our duplicated site.

Here is where the help is needed, so we can upgrade to 2.5.

Prior to doing any upgrading, we wanted to make sure the new site was communicating with the new database correctly. The best way we thought to test the database communication was to add a new user.

1st thing we tried was to go into User Manager and add a new user. The system added the new users (we did it three times) because we got the emails saying the users where created. However, we got the following error “JUser: :_load: Unable to load user with ID: 42″ with the completion emails. Note:the users did not appear within the User manager nor myphpadmin even though we got the emails.

2nd thing we tried was going into the myphpadmin and we added a user that way. It added, but it does not show up within User Manager, nor can we log into the joomla backend with that account nor any but one of the accounts to be quit honest.

3rd the username and password created within the Mysql and applied to the new database only works within the configuration.php. We can log into the backend of joomla with it.

4th we tried a database repair and we got "You do not have access to that database ()!"

Any help is much appreciated. We really want to upgrade, but it seems our database is a bit wackO
