I am also trying to figure out what is the best blog for a new site.
Is K2 that much better than the Joomla 3 article system?
Adding CComment may be a good solution?

Like they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". My need for K2 previously, was to allow comments to articles for an author's site. Strangely, exactly the same thing but another site this time.
In order to have commenting with Joomla 2.x I needed article commenting and rather than just append comments to articles, I chose to have them display on their own page which suited the author as the comments wouldnt automatically be found by reading the posted article but rather by going to the comments section. In the new site they are to be appended. K2 not only did this extremely well, it actually allows, via the K2 logon, the user who logs on to attend to comments he/she has published or had published by others (depending on access levels you grant) through their own "user page". They can even add avatar images to their user name.
Would you go to the extent of applying K2 to a site *JUST* for the purposes on one blog? I guess if you were being paid to do the site, the answer has to be yes if the site owner wants it that way but if it is a site for yourself and you earn no income from it then in my books the answer is no. I have only ever installed K2 on that one site, previously and it took a little getting used to and it isnt one of those "I learned to ride a bicycle at 7 years old and so can ride one for the rest of my life without having to learn all over again" deals either. K2 is intricate if you need intricacy for whatever reason but to put it in and have it right if you have never used it before takes time to master. Worth mastering, in the end but if it were me and all you were doing was using a blog on the site and wanted commenting, I would install Kunena Forum and not K2. Much easier to install and setup, allows commenting, obviously and is not going to fry your brain if you havent used K2 before.
Having said that about K2, I have to say that when you put Joomla in you have put in a masterpiece of site software so far as I am concerned but it is like an amazing building without anything useful inside. K2 is like adding everything that makes the building useful to the occupants, to me. Sure, others will disagree but hey like I said "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
