Did you ceate all necessary elements for a home page?
1. Go to the article manager
2. Create the article you want to show in your home page, make it featured
3. Go to the menu manager
4. Create a new menu call it whatever you want (skip this if you already have a menu for this porpuse)
5. Select (click on) this new menu
5. Create a menu item, name it Home (or whatever you want), in Alias field type home, in Menu Item Type select Featured Articles
That should do it.
